Roy Overcast
Brentwood, Tennessee
A native of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Roy Overcast received his B. S. in Art
from Middle Tennessee State University. He went on to earn the Master's
of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Georgia. He
also took advantage of working assistantships at the Arrowmont School
of Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As entrepreneur in the arts, Roy
was Director of Visual Arts for the Tennessee Arts Commission for 10
years and established his own Overcast Pottery business.
Since 1993, Roy has been producing his whimsical Bad Hair Doll sculptures
and exhibiting in many foreign countries and locally. The clay sculpture
works are fired in sawdust, and a variety of recycled materials are
added to embellish the surface and form.
Roy's works and articles have been featured in a variety of publications
including Ceramics Monthly, Southern Living, and Country
Living. His
works are included in numerous collections, both public and private.
