Marilyn Johnson, a native Minnesotan, later Floridian, and Vanderbilt graduate, has lived in Nashville for more than 25 years with the exception of three years in Washington, D. C., and two years at the University of Florida, while studying for a Master's Degree in Journalism and Communications.

An event planner at Vanderbilt University Medical School, she has studied under Anton Weiss, Wattana Wattanapun, and others since 1990.

Her abstract acrylics on canvas and paper are explorations into the medium. As she follows the paint, Johnson makes no conscious attempt to create specific images. Sometimes images emerge; other times, texture, color, and motion speak out, often with a raw energy.
