Having
a background in a variety of design and art expressions, Evelyn
Gray brings color, emotion, and technique to her Movement, Doodle,
and Faces series. Her primitive characters in her Movement series
strike a universal note of human emotions such a spontaneity,
joy, and pain. Going beyond the predictable, these paintings
have ancient charm with modern appeal through the use of clean,
sparse lines, and narrow palette of color. The Doodle series
presents oversize doodles in lively, colorful expressions of
line and technique. Her designs baffle the viewer by making
him discover the mystery hidden in the familiar. Haunting, expressive
faces allow the viewer a glimpse into the pain and depth of
the human soul in her Faces series. Singular, abstract emotion
is the focus in these simple designs.
Evelyn Gray has a varied background in the study of art and design. Having
studied with the noted artist Marie Hull in her native state of Mississippi,
she has developed her strength in visual impressions through the creation
of three-dimensional art such as jewelry design, handmade abstract
paper art, and sculpture.
Her work is featured in the corporate collections of Bellsouth, New York
Life Insurance Co., and US West, as well as private collections throughout
the Southeast.
